Water leakage is a familiar “disease” for air conditioners after a long time of use. Although this is a common problem, it also causes a lot of trouble for users. For example, stagnant water makes the room damp, has an unpleasant odor, and the walls are stained with yellow water; the humid air in the room creates conditions for mold and bacteria to grow, which is not good for health, especially the health of young children.

Water leakage can occur in two locations: the condenser and the evaporator. However, due to the specific location of the installation in a closed room, the issue of water leakage in the evaporator is still of greater concern.
For the phenomenon of water leakage in the condenser (the device placed outside), it is completely normal, the amount of water flowing out of the condenser will be relatively small and depends a lot on environmental factors such as humidity and the cooling capacity of the machine system, the coldest location (with the lowest temperature of the machine system is inside the condenser - so the water vapor in the air will condense...). In the installation instructions, it is also recommended that customers pay attention to the space below when installing the condenser hanging high, because there may be water flowing out of the condenser. Normally, 1-way air conditioners do not need to install a condenser drain because the amount of water flowing out is insignificant, however, for 2-way air conditioners, installing a drain for the outdoor condenser is mandatory because a lot of water will flow out when the machine operates in the heating direction.
There are many causes for water leakage in the evaporator, including one of the following 5 main causes:
1. The air conditioner is not cleaned and maintained regularly. Because after a long period of operation, the evaporator will be covered with a lot of dirt and water may leak out.
2. Due to blockage/breakage/leakage in the drain pipe. Normally, the condensed water in the evaporator will flow out through the drain pipe. However, if it is not cleaned for a long time, dirt or insects will clog the drain pipe, causing water to flow back in, filling the water tray and flowing down to the floor. If the drain pipe is broken/leaking, the water will flow down and cannot escape.
3. It may be due to the air conditioner not having enough gas. Because when the air conditioner is not having enough gas, it causes ice to form inside the evaporator, making it impossible for water to escape through the drain pipe. Accordingly, the air conditioner has water leakage.
4. The evaporator fan is broken. When the evaporator fan is broken, does not rotate or rotates slowly, causing the evaporator to freeze. At this time, the water cannot flow down the drain pipe but is blocked by snow, dripping directly into the room.
5. Improper installation of the air conditioner. Some inexperienced air conditioner installers will install the drain pipe without a slope, or make the pipe too long without ventilation holes. These things cause water leakage from the air conditioner, even with new air conditioners.
To fix the above causes, it is best to contact a technician to check and refill the air conditioner with gas, and at the same time clean the evaporator so that the evaporator is no longer frozen. Do not disassemble the air conditioner yourself to avoid causing further damage to the air conditioner.
