MITSUBISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES
1870
The "Mitsubish" brand originated from the founder Yataro Iwasaki who leased the state-owned Nagasaki Shipyard and began large-scale shipbuilding. The business was later taken over by Mitsubishi Shipbuilding.
1884
Mitsubishi Shipbuilding expanded its production diversifying into heavy machinery, including airplanes, trains, and transportation vehicles for both rail and sea, the company was renamed Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in 1884.
1934
Officially renamed to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.
1970
Mitsubishi companies established the Mitsubishi Foundation to commemorate their 100th anniversary of its founding.
Through many stages of economic phases, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has always been a pioneer in transforming itself to improve its competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
